genre: rock

Codes and Conventions of the Rock Genre:

  • There is throughout the genre a theme of being dark, emotional and meaningful. This is shown through the dark lighting in videos and photoshoots and heavy, meaningful lyrics with a strong sound. Often, the colours black and white will be used to connote seriousness, and emotion.
  •  Long and/or wide camera angles are normally used to allow the whole band to be seen and to show music instruments being played. There are also close ups of the artists playing the instruments, this is to show the members individualy and to create an intense feel to the video.
  • The Performance in most videos shows the band playing together and somtimes shoows each member plain separately, or in some videos the band are shown to be playing separately untill the last chours then they come together to give the video a more dramatic ending.
  • The costume of the band members are typically seen wearing black with leather jackets and ripped jeans and boots. this is to give the band a more powerfull look. they would also sometimes have lots of jewellery even more typically they have messy black/long hair as this is used to create a larger head banging effect. they also typically have lots of tattoos showing as this is a connotation of being strong and also tough.

song choice

Song choice for music video project
Back To Me by Of Mice And Men
The song we have chosen is of mice and men - back to me. Even though there is an official video it is  a montage of live performances of the band on tour. We plan to have a live performance within our video but also have a narrative running through of a young girl going through some personal and finding her way back to someone who she can trust to look after her, and help her through her hard times. The songs lyrics are very powerful and create a strong emotion behind the song.

Upon this feedback sheet i can see that the issues apply to me. I need to vary the way my posts are created  this will make my blog more interesting as there will be different ways the audience can view it. I will also need to keep up with blog postings as I have fallen behind dramatically, I will go into more detail and work harder to create a better blog to view.

Postmodernism

Postmodernism is a shortcut to mass audiences.
The oxford dictionary refers to post modernism as "a style and concept in the arts characterised by distrust of theories and ideologies and by the drawing of attention to conventions."
"Postmodernism is said to describe the emergence of a social order in which the importance and power of mass media and popular culture means they govern and shape all other forms of social relationships"- Striate 1995:224
cinema:
'Its argued to be postmodern because it goes further than recycling the recent past, making films which are merely imitations of other films rather than reflections of social reality" Striate 1995:230

in short postmodernism becomes the new by referring to the old
