and another more modern style of music video which is the narrative style this style is the audio in the background almost telling a story as the audience watches on youtube or social media. an example of this would be bring me the horizons video for their song true friends:
The invention of film and cinema brought around the possibility of combining music and moving images this lead to silent films. However once film and cinema began to show films with sound within the video this is when the idea first came around, this was in the 1920s. during the great depression Jazz singers and bands where very popular. during this era Jazz musicians such as Bessie Smith, created short films for popular songs.
In 1965 Bob Dylan filmed Subterranean Homesick Blues as part of a segment for D. A. Pennebaker's film, Don't Look Back - this is referred to as one of the very first modern music videos.
Pop music TV shows became a thing in 1970 as record companies discover that there is an opportunity to promote their music own tv as well as radio. they began to focus on producing short "promos". This was when the early music videos began to replace the live performances on the TV. with MTV starting in August 01 1981 with the very first music video to be shown on its show was by the Buggles with Video Killed The Radio Star, this show lead to more people viewing music videos as they were on tv a lot of the time. now we have multiple channels on tv that show different genres of music and we have channels designated for specific genres.
